Nicole grew up in La Crosse, WI and attended UW Madison majoring in Political Science and Women's Studies with a certificate in Global Cultures. She has been involved with grassroots organizing and political action ever since she can remember, working from the local to international level on numerous elections, projects, and campaigns. In college, she was involved with UW Madison's Campus Women's Center, Choice USA, student government (ASM) as the Women's Issues Liaison, United Council board member and secretary for two terms, United Council Interim Women's Issues Director, and Board member for the United States Student Association, among others.
Nicole has focused her work to organizing at the intersections of many issues and causes such as education, gender, sexuality, labor, health, race, class, reproductive justice, civil and political liberties, etc., taking a deliberate stance that social justice movements and issues are not mutually exclusive but instead are interconnected around a broader framework of human rights.
She has used her love of law, policy, and activism through electoral, legislative, and direct action organizing around a wide array of campaigns including: lobbying at the Federal level for the preservation of key student services, grants, and a systemic lowering of student debt, the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity as part of UW's university nondiscrimination policy, allowing accessible birth control on UW campuses, increasing student voter turnout in all elections from the local to the Federal, lobbying the Wisconsin State Legislature to increase funding to the UW system for three biennia, strengthening sexual assault statues to include alcohol as an intoxicant, adding a second student position to the Board of Regents, and most recently working through an international youth coalition to advocate for sexual and reproductive rights at the United Nations.
